Too Darn Hot
a musical revue by Angus Jacobs, 28 September-2 October 2010
Building on success of 2008s Red Hot & Black we thought it was time to put on another cabaret. Too Darn Hot takes inspiration from the black and white movies of the late ‘50s/early ‘60s. Think ‘La Dolce Vita’, Sophia Loren, torpedo bras and ‘wiggle’ skirts, Frank Sinatra, skinny suits and ties plus a touch of Italian jazz and of course the Vespa!
Like Red Hot and Black, it is a musical revue comprising songs from some of the most well known films and musicals associated with the period plus some original and modern pop, the playlist is below.
The show will have a loose narrative that will be told through song and some dialogue provided by a narrator. It will be a show of two halves, Act 1 set outside a night club and Act 2 inside the club. This show will still focus on the styling of Bob Fosse but will be ‘more class than arse!’
It will be character driven and for this reason we have acting and vocal coaches on board as part of the production team, also at the audition we will be looking for you to tell the story of your song choice through your acting not just how good your voice is. Songs will be allocated to individual characters, however these characters are not set in stone and we are open to your interpretation of the songs.
Too Darn Hot will sparkle and sizzle in monochrome magnificence. Hope to see you at the auditions.
