Don Juan is the greatest lover ever to have walked the face of the earth. (No pressure chaps).
It is one of a number of plays written by Patrick Marber (Closer, Dealer's Choice) all of which have won numerous awards and critical acclaim.
Molieres farcical, tragic, anarchic original of 1665 is relocated to modern day Soho: swank, new hotels and festering, old clip joints, crackheads in alleys and cokeheads in clubs. The destitute, the delirious, the broken and the brazen, the hustlers and hoorays, the media movers and merciless whores - all packed in to one seething square mile. Don Juan - the infamous amoral hedonist in a society entranced by sensation.

KDC Have announced their winter season - check it out...

KDC Winter Season - by Jenny McIntyre, KDC Chair

So, summer was a bit of a wash-out, but KDC Theatre have a winter season planned which will brighten up your year no end. We'll be at the Landor Theatre, Clapham, in November/December, with the following plays:

Tuesday 25th till Saturday 29th November

'Black Comedy' by Peter Shaffer, directed by Olivia Rowe

Black Comedy is a fast-paced modern comedy classic based on an inversion of reality. When the characters are plunged into darkness by a blown fuse, the stage is illuminated for the audience. A farcical series of events unfold relating to Brindsley, a sculptor who is trying to impress his fiancée Carol’s father (Colonel Melkett) and, perhaps unwisely, has “borrowed” his neighbour Harold’s furniture. Also in the mix are a philosophy-quoting electrician, the teetotal Miss Furnival, an eccentric millionaire art dealer, and Clea, Brindsley’s mistress.

Cast Breakdown –

8 characters, 3-4 women and 4-5 men. Auditions will be a mixture of group improvisations and cold-read duologues.

Tuesday 2nd till Saturday 6th December

'Much Ado About Nothing' by William Shakespeare, directed by Duncan Moore

Most people when thinking of Much Ado think of Benedick and Beatrice's verbal sparing, but there is so much more to this play, both character and plot wise in this wonderful comedy.

On one level Much Ado is 'summer' in a play (which will be perfect after the summer we've had, especially in winter in Clapham when it is performed), but on another level there are darker aspects and these are the ones I also want to explore.

Yes, the play does revolve around 2 pairs of lovers, Beatrice and Benedick and Claudio and Hero (and the obstacles that get in the way of their relationships), but when you have a play with 21 different characters, (all of which are important to the production that we will be staging) then we should focus on their stories, relationships and histories as well.

Cast Breakdown -

The 21 characters will be played by 16 actors: 10 men and 6 women.

If you have never read/acted Shakespeare before then don't worry.  The auditions will be a mix of improvisation and cold reading, both from the script and a non-Shakespearean play.  I want the best actors, simple as that, and the auditions will be as relaxed and fun as possible for you to show me what you can do.

In fact if you have never acted Shakespeare before then you are definitely the sort of person I want to see in at the auditions!

Auditions

Try to come along to either time slot on the day that corresponds with your surname. If you can’t make that day, come along on another one that suits.

None of the auditions require you to prepare a piece or bring a head shot. Just turn up and have fun. You can audition for both plays in one night and it’s free!

You may then also be asked to attend a recall on Saturday 27th September, between 10am and 2pm, also at the Drill Hall.

To find out more about the plays, meet the directors, and hear about what else KDC is up to in the coming months, come along to our Newcomers meeting on Thursday 18th September at the Red Herring pub, 49 Gresham St, London EC2V 7EH, from 7.30pm. You can still audition if you can't make Newcomers, but it's a good way to find out more about us, and make some new friends to audition with!
